I'm grateful to have made it all the way through the first month of this project without skipping a day. I can officially say that's a record. And for month one to end on such a high note of a day feels really amazing.
Today I am grateful for the people in my life who understand my need for spontaneity. For my mom, who put together a spur the moment road trip to go shopping, and an amazing friend who, even after driving for nine hours, was more than happy to go out for dinner with me when I asked at the last possible minute. My need for spontaneity, for impulsive actions...it doesn't always need to be big or reckless (hard to believe at this point, I know). It doesn't always need to be jumping off cliffs or getting tattooed or pierced. Sometimes it really can be something as simple as going to dinner last minute and ordering a flight of margaritas, or going shopping in a different city. I'm grateful for those experiences today, and for the people who brought them to me.
I'm grateful for the guy at the Vans store who complimented my lobster socks as I tried on shoes. I gave him the cliffs notes version of my lobster sock story and left him with the piece of wisdom I gained from seeing one of my people wearing lobster socks many years ago while pursuing the side hustle that brings them joy. "Go boldly forth with the confidence of a grown man in lobster socks," I told him. He pulled out his phone and ordered lobster socks on Amazon. Maybe this should be a thing. Everyone put one foot in front of the other, boldly toward the direction of your dreams, with the confidence brought on by wearing crustacean socks. Does it make sense? No. But it works for me, like Dumbo and his feather.
I'm grateful for giant mirrors and margarita flights, for iced coffee and garter belts, for Vans slip ons and Chuck Taylors, and for 2000's Crunk playlists on Spotify. I'm grateful to be gracing thirty two years around the sun (in two days) with a more positive, optimistic outlook, and hope for the future.
xoxo,
gossipgirl.
Just kidding. Dominique.
