Just a Room Full of Clowder [Gratitude Project 2023: day six]

clowder: noun. a group of cats.

Today I am grateful for the last seventeen weeks with the clowder of kittens that none of us asked for. Their mom, Edward, showed up on our deck, round and waddly and constantly eating any and all food we put out, then went into labor on a Sunday afternoon while the rest of the family was gone. Her sitting in the weirdest position I have ever seen and panting heavily may have sent me into mild to moderate panic, but we all made it through.

I've always joked about wanting a house full of cats, but now I know what it's actually like, and as we get ready to relinquish Emmett and Alice (known by their new mom as Angel and Willow) to their new forever home, we will officially be without a room full of clowder. All that will be left are Edward (until her spay appointment next week) and Rosalie, who has found her forever human with yours truly. So while having a house full of kittens has been amazing (as I always knew it would be), it's also been alot of work, and it's time for all of us to move on.

I waiver back and forth on my belief in the Divine's hand in the world of humanity, but I must admit, a litter of kittens was everything I needed when they showed up. I'm a caretaker at heart, I love to help and give love and support to those around me. So when a batch of furry babies appeared, needing my love and care, I was NOT sad, and I couldn't help but to feel that it was awfully coincidental, considering everything that was going on beneath the surface. So whether it was actual coincidence, or a little Divine intervention, I'm grateful for it.

But now our time is coming to an end, and while I am sad to lose these rambunctious balls of crazy, I am grateful that they will be going to a new home with one of my best friends, where I know they will be loved and cared for. And, most importantly, I'm grateful for the time we've had together. They have brought joy, laughter, and a destroyed bedroom into my life, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

....okay, maybe it would have been better had they not destroyed the bedroom.

If you're ever in need of joy, might I suggest a clowder of kittens?
