Day ten! Double digits! AYE! Today I'm grateful for the opportunity to bake way too many baked goods with my mom. Spending time with her is something I will never take for granted, but baking together always hits a nostalgic spot. My mom is absolutely amazing with any and all things baked goods, and some of my fondest memories with her are centered around her teaching me to bake. From her beaming with pride at my first sheet of secret recipe chocolate chip cookies, to her getting extremely frustrated with my left handedness when trying to teach me to roll pie crust, the memories are endless. When I got my first boyfriend, she taught me to bake said chocolate chip cookies. When he left the country (no, seriously), she taught me to bake oatmeal raisin. Thus is the circle of life.
We don't bake much anymore, due to me going on a total and complete health craze in my early twenties and taking the wind out of her sails, so she was beyond excited when I recruited her to help me with bake sale goods today. "It's just like the good old days! Make sure to play your music like you used to!" I mean...duh. Would I do it any other way? I'm convinced desserts taste better if you dance while you bake them.
Today's blog is short and sweet, pun absolutely intended. I'm grateful for these moments and I know I will cherish them always.
I'm also grateful for nonstick baking sheets, as reminded by a friend.
May you have small moments in life that become the warmest of memories.
